An Obscene Question

Submitted by The Jodan on January 10, 2009 - 5:49am.

What is the most offensive, debased, and obscene aspect of American culture that you can think of? What part of American life makes you recoil in horror and disgust? We're betting it's not nipples.

teenage sexuality.
on a biological level, they're ready to screw each other's brains out without batting an eye.
on a societal level, they're being fed two polar-opposites: abstinence is best vs. sex and sexiness make you more popular.
we have the britneys to thank for the latter, and i'm sure she's not the first but her names comes to mind easily when referring to the popularity of the jailbait look in our high schools and in our clothing retailers.
Yet these kids are being told to deny every natural urge they have, which puts them in a perpetual state of conflict with themselves. And there are no grey areas out there- it's always "no sex" and "sex is shameful" vs "what feels good makes me a sinner."
Sex, while as natural an urge as sneezing, has become so much more than its biological function. It's a moral conundrum with no satisfying resolution.

"My Super Sweet 16". It epitomizes what exactly is wrong with society as a whole. Spoiled brat teenager who get their parents to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a party for their 16th birthday. And the whole time, this show is on TV making other teengers think this is normal, that they too should get this kind of party and their parents are terrible people for not being able to give it to them.

Note - I have never seen the show but have enjoyed clips from "The Soup"

oh my God!!!! Those little spoiled, neglected, ignorant teens are horrid. There was one girl who arrived in a helicopter instead of a limo and she got an even more expensive car than she wanted and she was screaming crying over it. The parents were like oh, i felt so bad that we didn't get her the one she wanted!
horrid ...

Reality television.

Anyone who is under the impression that reality tv is real, are the biggest group of not just stupid but incredibly stupid morons who have roamed the earth. How the hell, do you take lets say 20 different people and tell them one of you will get a million dollars if you win. Yeah that is something to shoot for. But after the government gets through with you you'll be lucky if you see half of that. Still people eat this shit up like a Sunday dinner. Viewers get shown maybe two days worth of footage when there is supposedly a month. it just irritates the hell out of me.

You know the law where you have to take driving lessons and pass tests in order to drive safely or work in specific places where you have to learn certain cleanliness and proper health awareness? Well I strongly believe that by now there should be a new law, in order to reproduce you have to pass a parental awareness test! I fucking guarantee that half of America would fail.
What pushed me over the edge about this topic is this:
I was at my bf's house and decided to throw on tv only to find this show called "Mermaid Syndrome, the 10th Birthday Miracle" or some crap. As an overly emotional and humanitarian chick that I am, I put it on merely because I love mermaids and had no idea what the syndrome was.
This is her....

http://celeb-news.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/mermaid_syndrome-0397.j...

This poor girl was told by doctors that she wasn't going to make it past 2 years old, the doctors told the parents she would never make it and here they were celebrating her 10th birthday. I would have been so happy for the girl because my cousin was told the same at 5 years old, but look at her. Her parents feed her because they can't do much else with her being in a wheel chair. They are showing their affections, emotions and neglecting her by shoving all this unhealthy disgusting food into her well being.
It just makes me so sick to my stomach that the parents are thanking the doctors and thanking their friends who they say are all sooooo supportive and thanks to them she wouldn't be alive, "My daughter is infact a miracle, and i could have her for another ten years" when in fact that's absolutely ignorant! The kid has a fighting chance if she ate healthy and had real support. Everyone that was in that documentary looked disgustingly unhealthy and I think people like that, despite the fact that they been raised similarly and have their own childhood neglect, seriously should have to pass a HUGE test in order to prevent wasted souls from capturing their ovaries!!!
