Why This Site Will Fail

Repetition is the lifeblood of our culture. There is the urge in all of us to sit and rot, to fester in a darkness deep enough to hide our misgivings, our failures, and regrets. Rigidity becomes pride, a rock that will not move and a mountain blotting out the sun. Many in life try to replicate the timelessness of eternity, fabricating for themselves a world that never changes and never grows, a world that acts like something between a castle and a tomb. And as a nation, we are constantly given the tools we need to wall ourselves in.
This website is asking people to think, and asking Americans to think is an insult equal to sodomizing their dead grandmother. Thought requires change. When we examine things, when we pay attention to new information and really notice when our world changes, we have to constantly adjust to stay well adapted to the world around us. This is a lot of work. Worse yet, we have to consider how our own actions and beliefs affect ourselves and the people around us. And beyond even that is the possibility of thinking ourselves into realizing our own mortality, fragility, and relative unimportance. It is much easier to let someone else solve these problems for us.
Standing united under a banner has its virtues, but we of this place are not willing to pay the price. When others do the thinking, they are the ones who dictate reality. They make their show and the crowd gathers, seeing only what their creator desires. The price of such order is ignorance, willful or otherwise. There are people who think subtlety is a new flavor from Snapple and that nuance is the name of a new pop star, who fear the sin of failure so much they never try anything, and who would gleefully give everything to be responsible for nothing.
Pundits, preachers, profits, and paranoiacs will gladly buy up people’s individuality. Would-be leaders convince us to believe that they are beyond problems and beyond doubt, and we want to believe them so that we can move beyond ours. Always we look for someone else to take action. We call our heroes and our villains someone else, and someone else is always in control. We are indeed social creatures; without someone else to do most of our work, we would shrivel away and die. Most of us would rather hide in a crowd than lead it, and most of those who want to lead simply don’t know how, and the few who can rarely get the chance.
Here, we possess a monstrous cynicism that feeds on the false hope sold through plastic, make-up, and the dead hulks built by false prophets. On a range of issues, from politics to marketing to our own mindless actions, we just cannot accept what others sell as truth and gospel. It could be generational. Growing up, the government told us that ketchup was a vegetable and that homeless people were just camping. And now, we have been handed the world promised to us as children: the incompetence, the misery, the bald-faced fakery and exploitation of every person and principle we were told to adore. Yet we press on, crawling to that merest hint of light of simple human decency and honesty.
And here, we see that our problems are not new. Progress has moved us from the British longbow to the Hydrogen bomb, but every generation has been told that the world will end and that we will all be punished for our sins. Man has always been cruel and wicked; man has always been the light and the hope, whether we are beaten animals or broken souls. Sharper spears and stronger shields mean nothing. Technology has enhanced our contradictions; it has not created them. But seeing this, knowing this, and saying this changes nothing. Hindered more than heeded, we have spurned Apollo and are now paying the price, oracles blind to the evil that men do to themselves.

This whole piece is really really well written...

My generation sadly is lazy, bored and awaiting the next new item before really looking at the old from all sides. Granted people as a whole always strive to go forward not backwards but nonetheless I agree sites like these while very interesting and humorous tend to be brushed off because people don't like to have to think beyond the stupid jokes or puns like Cats on fire.
By the way do we still have a forum O_O

Submitted by Angry Hippie (not verified) on December 2, 2009 - 2:16am.If people knew how easy it can be to reevaluate their lives from birth till the present, they would see who, what, where, why, when, and how. Therefore, they would be able to be whole and happy, and save the world trouble by raising their fucking kids the right way, for the right reasons!!!!!! This is a true fact that has got my heart numb for years. I observed the ignorance, neglect, and past down inattention in my family as a child so instead of hurting myself because they hurt themselves, I left at 14. My mother proved to me that she was a waste of my time and I hers, when she gave up looking for me when I was in the same neighborhood, (shows me guilt). Anyway, I always write too much...
I would rather do all that I can in my strong will to advocate this site as much as humanly possible, rather than us all agreeing why it's so hard for people to enjoy self improvement instead of the games that they enjoy creating and die feeling alone and regretful.
Thomas A. Harris, M.D. - "I'm OK, You're OK"
Chapter 4
(What makes people want to change?)
" Three things make people want to change. One is that they hurt sufficiently, they have beat their heads against the same wall so long that they decide they have had enough. They have invested in the same slot machines without a pay-off for so long that they are willing either to stop playing or to move onto others. Their migraines hurt, their ulcers bleed, they are alcoholic, they have hit the bottom; they beg for relief. They want to change. The assumption is that there must be cause or causes for people actions, and that the causes lie somewhere in the past. The pure determinist holds that mans behavior is not free and is only a product of his past."
When we are children we don't realize that we can be adults, and when we are adults we don't realize that we can be children.
On the Transactional Analysis of Parent, Adult, Child. He explains;
" At about ten months of age a remarkable thing begins to happen to the child. until that time his life has consisted mainly of helpless or unthinking responses to the demands and stimulations by those around him. He has a Parent and a Child. What he has not had is the ability to either chose his responses or to manipulate his surroundings. He has had no self-direction, no ability to move out to meet life. He has simply taken what has come his way. However, at about ten months he begins to experience the power of locomotion. He can manipulate objects and begins to move out, freeing himself from the prison of immobility. He has found he is able to do something which grows from his own awareness and original thought. This self-actualization is the beginning of the Adult.
- Adult data accumulates as a result of the child's ability to find out for himself what is different about life from the 'taught concept' of life in his parent, and the 'felt concept' of life in his Child. The Adult develops a 'thought concept' of life based on data gathering and data processing.
AH! Anyway, my point is that I agree with Freud in that history repeats itself. It is repetitive in philosophy and history in the psychological point of view and within generation to generation. If people noticed that their children, whether they can speak yet or not, have eyes and are watching and recording their every move and listening to their every word... they might want rethink the responsibility of damaging a human by having it, not killing it. Some people are against abortion because they don't believe in killing?? They have the kids when they're unexpected out of guilt and abortion is a correction and a lesson.
Before anyone judges, thinking that I'm being too harsh, I have had an abortion and my mother had 3 other kids unexpected at 16. Have to experience something to understand it.
So, I don't think this site will fail because as long as there is a Yin there will be a Yang. As long as there are zombies around we will always have reason to reach out and if/when this site actually cures half of them; we will have practically started a new religion. lol
